Abhay Charan De, better known by the religious name A.C. Bhaktivedānta Svāmī Prabhupāda or Śrīla Prabhupāda (Calcutta, September 1, 1896 – Vṛndāvana, November 14, 1977), was a Viṣṇuit Indian writer and missionary.
He was a spiritual master (ācārya) in the disciplic chain (guruparamparā), founded by the 16th century Bengali mystic Caitanya (viṣṇuism gauḍīya).
Founder of ISKCON (formally “International Association for Krishna Consciousness”, better known as the “Hare Krishna movement”), a religious association that aims to spread Gauḍīya viṣṇuism in the West, Prabhupada is also the author of numerous writings, translations and commentaries on the literature of the Vedas, the Upaniṣads, the Bhagavadgītā, the Bhāgavata Purāṇa and the Caitanya-caritāmṛta
